August 2011 - TWO family visits & cheer begins

Carter got an anthill for his birthday and when the ants finally arrived via mail, it was an exciting day!

A few hours after getting the anthill all setup, we had a little mishap. The entire anthill got knocked off of the table. There were screams as big biting/stinging ants ran all over the floor. Luckily I was able to save some and the rest got stepped on (by Aaron). Yes, there were tears. (Olivia has a soft spot for all bugs.)

This was their progress made the following day. They were fun to watch for a few weeks!

Shellee & Daniel came to visit for a few days!

We spent one day near the river. A friend recommended this new restaurant so we had to try it out. All sorts of grilled cheese sandwiches.

The kids favorite part was the candy store at Newport on the Levee.

I think Shellee liked it too.

Purple People Bridge

Playing in Cincinnati

My favorite swing

Shellee & I waiting on the kids to play at the playground.

Tired 'em all out.

Since Daniel's mom & stepfather live so close, it's great when Shellee & Daniel come visit because they get to visit with Daniel's family too!

One evening while Shellee & Daniel visited, the Rampton's invited us over too. We had a cook-out and got to swim in their pool.

Olivia & Carter LOVED the diving board.

Thank you for the fun evening Ramptons.

On August 15th, Carter broke his ulna!

It was Monday evening and we had gone to play on the swingset after FHE. The kids had really wanted to go swimming, but knowing that the pool was so cold, we talked Carter into choosing to just play in the backyard. Carter was playing on his new trapeze bar that he got for his birthday. I told Carter to swing back and I would catch him. Well...before he could swing backwards, he fell forward off of the trapeze bar and I wasn't fast enough to catch to catch him. I knew immediately he had broken his arm because it was bent where it shouldn't be. I grabbed his arm and Aaron helped get him inside so we could splint it before heading to the hopital.
The urgent care x-rayed it and sent us to Children's hospital so they could sedate Carter and place his ulna. So glad that is over. His splint was huge and so we had to cut a few shirts to get them on and off while we waited to get his cast put on.

My mom and dad arrived the following day and I was so disappointed that Carter wasn't able to ride his bike while Olivia and my dad took lots of bike rides. Thank goodness we have the trailer so at least he could go along.

On August 20th, Olivia got to cheer at her first football game.

Olivia is in the bottom left.

She loves it!

Aaron brought Carter to Olivia's game a little late in his new cast.

Haylee loves trying on everyone's shoes.

While my mom and dad were here, we made a trip to Jungle Jim's. Grandpa treated Olivia to some candy filled with ants.

My dad also helped me build a rocket stove while he was here. Thanks Dad! Now I have another source to cook with in an emergency situation.

I took Olivia to get her cheer pictures taken at the park with her squad, but it was taking too long and so I started taking my own. So glad I did because a rainstorm came in and we weren't able to get any squad pictures taken.

All ready for church!

The kids created a list of fun things to do over the summer. We didn't get to all of them, but we had a great summer!

Haylee was all ready to go to school with her older siblings.

Wait! She forgot her Diet Coke ;)

(or rather, Grandma's Diet Coke)

August 23rd. First Day of School!

(I stole this "jumping" idea from a good friend. Thanks Katie.)
So excited for school to start!

At the bus stop!

Oh sniffles...my little man heading off to school without even looking back!

Carter got her kindergarten shots this past week and had a reaction to them.
After another doctor visit, he was diagnozed with celulitis & lymphagnitis.

Carter showing me his swollen left armpit. Poor kid and two bum arms.
It's already getting much better with just oral antibiotics.

Olivia got to cheer at the High School football game for the 1st quarter on August 26th.

She had such a great time and I must admit, I had fun myself. Aaron and I haven't been to a High School football game in around 10 years and it was great.

Olivia's coach made an award for the sqaud to pass around for whomever as the most spirit at practices. Olivia was the inspiration behind the Spirit Stick! Her coach told me that she was so impressed with her enthusiasm and good manners at the game, she wanted to recognize her for it. Olivia was on Cloud 9. Even better when she got to call all the cheers for the squad for the 1st quarter of her next game.

Have I mentioned how much Haylee loves books? This was my cookbook and she sat "reading" it for several minutes.

I had a few incidents (Command stick tabs) with this wall and so I had to come up with something big to cover things up a bit without having to do drywall and paint right now. I thought this sunburst mirror turned out pretty good.

August was a great month!

I love all the pics you post! Did you notice in the last one how the picture of Christ is reflected in the mirror?? Way cool! Your creative ideas always end up looking great!
It looks like the cast isn't slowing Carter down much. He's got a red one now, doesn't he?
Olivia looks like she has a great time cheering. What a cutie.
Your kids are adorable!

Sounds like you did a lot in August. That is awesome your sister and parents could come visit. Sorry about Carters arm.
