Air Show Crash

Our Saturday turned out much different than what we had planned for. GE gave Aaron great tickets to the Dayton Air Show for today. After a nice lunch with the Bradley Family in Dayton, we planned to go to the Air Show for the last few hours and especially to see the Thunderbirds. As we were walking to our seats, we were watching the Mary's Lamb Show take place. Jim LeRoy's plane crashed right in front of us. The plane was coming out of what, I thought, looked like a free fall and it didn't come out soon enough, hitting the belly of the plane on the runway and sending it up in flames. It was shocking to view something like that in person. Fortunately, Olivia only knows that a man was hurt (not from a plane crash). The rest of the show was cancelled and so after gathering ourselves, we went to see some of the static planes they had on display. The best part of that for Olivia and Carter: getting to ride in the '1 child' stroller together. Kids are so easily entertained. We feel so bad for Mr. LeRoy's family though.

Olivia took an art class this summer at our local community center. At her last class, they made icecream sundaes. She loved putting her own toppings on her icecream.

From the icecream on his upper lip, I would say that Carter was happy to take part in Olivia's last art class too.

We found a new cage for our kids!

The Mary's Lamb show that we saw was quite loud. Olivia immediately stuck those fingers in her ears and didn't take them out until she had Carter to comfort her (in the stroller with her).

We did get to see the Osprey fly for a few minutes before the crash in the next show.

The Thunderbirds stayed grounded because of the crash. The runway was closed for several hours for investigation after the crash.

better to stay home than to 'go out'

When I looked through my pictures to post this week, I noticed that they are all taken at home. It reminded me of a talk I heard in church a few weeks ago that a friend gave. Mentioned in it was the fact that the media persuades us to think that it's better to 'go out' than to stay home. That stuck out to me because I'm always longing to go somewhere. We did have fun at home this week though!
What post would be complete without a picture of someone eating?
Carter is actually getting pretty good at spoon feeding himself.
Keep scrolling - Carter has learned to feed himself more than just yogurt.

A new favorite discovery for my two kiddies...sitting on the back of the couch (we try to fool you all, but it's actually still the futon) and then sliding down. Carter loves it and Olivia just loves to give the extra push to get him started.

Olivia loves to pretend sleep! She comes up with a lot of creative ways to make a 'bed' in the living room. This weeks bed of choice - clean clothes and a laundry basket. Soft, cozy, and just the right size for my little 3-year-old.

Carter on the other hand, will have NOTHING to do with pretend sleep. He loves to climb up on the fireplace just to see me shake my head and hear me say, "no, no."

The mosquito's have always had a thing for me. Even if it's only the lower leg they can get to (because I always wear capri's). Well, Olivia did a great job of doctoring me up with her bandaids. Thank you my sweet Olivia, they feel better already!

Okay, so maybe we didn't stay home the entire week. Aaron and I actually had our 2nd real date this year. Carter and Olivia enjoyed their time at the Merrell's home while Aaron and I hit some balls at the batting cages. It was so fun and very therapeutic. Too bad that I forgot the camera. I think I need to join a softball team though! Anyhow, Olivia was wore out when she got home. She actually fell asleep during a movie. It was a very proud moment for me...she's following in my footsteps (I can't make it through a movie without falling asleep to save my life!).

When Carter woke up from his nap, he decided it was time for Olivia to wake up too.

Carter loves anything that resembles a ball.

He's been practicing how to hold a football when he's running for the touchdown.

Meanwhile, Olivia is snoozing away. Carter's hugs didn't even phase her.

Here is the other thing that Carter has discovered he can eat by himself...MUD!
Such a boy!

stuff...

I can't think of a clever title for this post.
Spare moments this week have been taken up by leveling our compost pile that was left for us by previous owners. Aaron has done an excellent job with that and he's nearly ready to take on the task of moving our shed to the back corner of yard. (Previous owners put it in the middle of the yard so they wouldn't have to walk "so far" to get the lawn mower out of it.)
Olivia also finished up her swim lessons this week and when I asked her if she wanted to sign up for the next level, she politely declined.
Carter is learning something new all the time. He gives great juicy kisses and can "ROAR" like a lion.
I'm addicted to yard sales again. I found Olivia a grocery cart last week and Carter enjoys it just as much as she does.

Aaron helps me catch a few more minutes of zzz's on Sunday mornings by waking up with Carter. Aaron is lucky enough to get Carter back to sleep nearly every time though. (side note: since Aaron wakes up "early" with Carter, he takes a needed nap before church;)

Anytime Olivia's clothes are laying around, Carter gravitates to them. It scares Aaron, but gives me a good laugh. (Olivia's skirt is on his head)

Of course, anything that draws attention to Carter, Olivia has to try too:)

Like I said...Anything that draws attention to Carter, Olivia has to try too. Carter always finds the cupboard first, and Olivia has to cram herself in there with him. You can tell by the picture who enjoys it most.

One last trip to the zoo for the summer for some Elephant fanny...it helps improve my looks though, don't you think?

While at the zoo, we attended a funny bird show. Olivia seemed pretty entertained.

Carter enjoyed the birds too!

Happy Birthday Dear America!

"It's America's birthday!" This was Olivia's favorite phrase today. We enjoyed our holiday, but first...
Olivia loves to make her own bandaids. She cuts an odd shaped piece of paper, writes on it, and then tapes it to her sores. You should all try this - it really cuts back on the cost of bandaids.

I think my little monster needs another buzz, don't you?

Olivia surprised me with some playdoe birthday cake this week. She even made her own candles for me to blow out. It was great. (The eating utinsels with the yellow playdoe on the top are the candles with flames.)

Carter's new thing - he won't allow me to feed him with a spoon unless he has one too. He's trying!

Carter enjoys our "Lucky Ducks" game as much as Olivia does.

Olivia reading to Carter while he was way up in his high chair.

Carter loves to push our chairs all over the place. He doesn't stop until the wall makes him.

Little stinker obviously knows how to pull the cap off markers - this one happened to be the color black!

The City of Fairfield (where we live) has all their Independence Day festivities on the 3rd of July. Our neighborhood has a wonderful view of the firework show. I'm sure Olivia will appreciate it more when she gets older. Meanwhile, we had a great time at a party our friend's (& neighbor's) house.

Carter loved the fireworks! He danced and cheered the whole time.
I also think he was surprised that the sun actually goes down. He usually goes to bed before the sun does and rises SHORTLY after it does.

Aaron and I were going to stop with our house projects today, but the weather kept us home. Aaron worked on finishing our banister to the basement.

Olivia helped me shuck corn for dinner.

We also made America a birthday cake. (I'll use any excuse to make a cake.)

Olivia wouldn't get close enough to the flames though to blow out the 2-3-1 candles.

Thank you to all the servicemen who make our country what it is - FREE! I especially thank my friends and family who serve so bravely - Colby, Todd, McKay, etc. Love you all!
